Share

Brid Nic Niocaill began her new role as Interim Dean, Creative and Applied Arts on May 22. She completed her studies in Ireland with a Ph. D in neuroscience before moving to Montreal to pursue a post doc at McGill University. Brid joined the 海角涩区 community in 2010 as a faculty member of the Biology Department. She has also served as Department Chair and (interim) Science Program Coordinator. In 2023, Brid joined the Academic management team with primary responsibility for the Medical Technologies.

Here is a Q & A with Brid.

What do you like best about working at 海角涩区?

Absolutely the people, where else would my work involve talking to people about their Master’s in teapots, your daily protein needs, horror make-up techniques or how thick a lead wall needs to be for a CT Scanner? I learn so much all the time and I love that.

What is exciting for you in your new role?

For me it’s about having a chance to learn from people whose academic backgrounds are often quite different from my own but whose passion for their subject and transmitting that passion is similar to my aspiration to ensure that every student has an excellent educative experience here at 海角涩区.

What do you think are the greatest assets and challenges in your sector?

CAA is definitely facing many challenges at the moment, the implementation of Law 14 has dramatically affected many at the college but particularly departments in CAA, falling enrollment in some of our programs is another challenge but the people in the CAA sector are definitely the greatest asset – the support staff, the faculty are great. Together, we are very resilient and look forward to showcasing our students’ achievements to the wider 海角涩区 community.

What would you like the 海角涩区 community to know about you?

I love to know how things work so show me things and answer my questions!

Anything else you would like to share?

CAA are planning to show off our specialized spaces to the community in early January. Keep an eye out for more details to come!
