Third edition of Inclusion and Wellness Retreat

Share

On June 11 and 12, the third edition of 海角涩区鈥檚 Inclusion and Wellness Retreat took place at the picturesque Far Hills Inn in the Laurentian mountains. Thirty people from a variety of departments (faculty and professionals) gathered to explore ways we can adapt our teaching approaches, interactions, and course design to meet a wide range of student needs.

In between workshops, participants connected with colleagues through movement and being outdoors with activities such as yoga, swimming, pickle ball, a campfire sing-along and Nature walks.聽 Feedback from participants included these comments:

  • 鈥淚 left the retreat with immense gratitude for the opportunity, our community and everyone鈥檚 individual expertise and knowledge. It was inspiring and I hope to convince my colleagues can attend the next one.鈥
  • 鈥淚 really liked the topics, the discussions (big group and small group). The group was very welcoming and accepting, I really appreciated the feeling of belonging that developed so quickly.鈥
  • It was incredibly helpful to share and understand the issues and solutions we each brought to the table. What once felt insurmountable became manageable with the support of a team of like-minded individuals. I really enjoyed hearing everyone鈥檚 strategies and initiatives, and I valued the opportunity to build a network of people to exchange ideas with, stay in touch, and connect with others (especially those who couldn鈥檛 attend but may be facing similar challenges).

Guest speakers included Conner Morgan from the Learning Centre and Christine Bustamante from the Student AccessAbility Centre (SAAC).聽 Other workshops and activities were led by Cathy Roy (Physiotherapy Technology), Caroline Haddad (Physical Education) and Julia Lijer贸n (Office of Academic Development), who were the organizers/facilitators of the event.

If you missed this retreat, don鈥檛 worry, another is planned for spring 2026!聽 Stay tuned for details about this and other upcoming events in future editions of D News.

The event organizers would like to thank the Dean of the OAD, the Academic Dean, the Communications Office, the Print Shop and the 海角涩区 Teachers鈥 Union for their support.
