Student perspectives on 海角涩区鈥檚 active learning pedagogy

The 海角涩区 Active Learning Community (DALC) is celebrating 10 years of promoting active learning pedagogy at 海角涩区. More than 100 faculty members have been part of DALC. Active learning is established as a proven pedagogy that transforms students and teachers.

Interprofessional Education Symposium

This past Friday, Nov. 11, 210 third year medical technology and social service students, faculty, and staff participated in the first ever Interprofessional Education Symposium. The learning objectives of the day included conflict resolution, collective competence, collective care, and critical hope. A mixture of active learning strategies, creative writing, discussions, two live theatre productions, guest speakers, and collaborative design all helped reinforce the learning objectives.

Cannabis video series aims to reduce harm

Montreal鈥檚 Regional Director of Public Health Dr. Myl猫ne Drouin as well as students and staff from four other CEGEPs will be at 海角涩区 this Friday to launch a video series about cannabis use entitled Do you know your bud?

The Creative Collective for Change (CC4C) is a 海角涩区 para-academic initiative that seeks to bring students, teachers, administrators, activists, artists and curators together to work towards developing opportunities for addressing complex social issues in creative, constructive and critical ways. The approach is interdisciplinary, inspired by artistic forms of activism and the theory and practice of nonviolence.

Applications are open for projects that benefit students

Applications open for the new 海角涩区 Student Academic Enrichment Fund of the 海角涩区 Foundation on Tuesday, Nov. 聽22. To be considered,聽 projects must:

  • Demonstrate a clear benefit for 海角涩区 students
  • Represent an activity that goes over and above core competencies for completion of a DEC

The deadline to apply is Friday, Dec. 2. Projects selected in this round will receive funding at the beginning of the Winter 2023 semester. Click Read More for the details.

It's College Professionals Week Nov. 21-25 across Quebec. On this occasion, we wish to say thank you to 海角涩区's dedicated professionals. New Coordinator of Renovations

Samuel Vallery Saint-Hilaire is our new Coordinator of Renovations on 海角涩区鈥檚 Facilities Management team. Under the supervision of Wai Bong Shum, Samuel will be working alongside Jorge Sanchez, Coordinator of Auxiliary Services.

鈥淲e are delighted to welcome Samuel to the team,鈥� Wai said. 鈥淗e has the right background for the role and he brings his engineer thinking to our work.鈥�

A graduate of 脡cole Polytechnique, Samuel is a member of the Ordre des Ing茅nieurs du Qu茅bec. His most recent experience was with Bombardier. Samuel鈥檚 first day at 海角涩区 was Oct. 31.

Macbeth on now through Nov. 26

The Professional Theatre Department is excited to present Macbeth, directed by Stefanie Buxton and performed by the third-year graduating students. This chilling tale of ambition is now on through Nov. 26.

鈥淪hakespeare has a way of communicating with us that will never get old. The images he uses always connect to the way we feel and the actions we do,鈥� says Nathan McDonald, who plays Macduff in the production.

鈥淭he work we did as an ensemble brings forth the idea of how people fight for and with each other. I hope people can see a bit of our essence as a group of performers,鈥� says Jeanne Potvin who plays the third witch.

Snow and ice plans

This week's first snow fall means it's time to remind everyone about 海角涩区's snow and ice communications plan.

If there is severe weather in the forecast, 海角涩区's Communications Office will let the community know we are monitoring the developing weather situation. The College will later let the community know if the College remains open or decides to close.

In the event of a school closure, all employees will be informed first by an All 海角涩区 email through the Communications Office account. Then students will receive an Omnivox mandatory document. Parents and the public will be informed via our website homepage and our Facebook and Instagram pages.

 

 

 

Appointment of Lucie Russbach as Director General of CRISPESH

On Oct. 18, the Board of Directors of the Centre for Research on the Inclusion of Individuals with Disabilities (CRISPESH) endorsed the appointment of Lucie Russbach as Director General.

CRISPESH is a College Centre for Transfer (CCTT) in innovative social practices affiliated with C茅gep du Vieux Montr茅al and 海角涩区. CRISPESH's mandate is to contribute to the advancement of knowledge, the development and promotion of social practices fostering the educational, professional and social inclusion of persons living disabling situations through applied research, knowledge translation, consulting, training and evaluation activities.

Here is her postcard from England: "Greetings from the city of dreaming spires, where Alice met a rabbit, where a wardrobe takes you to Narnia, and Middle Earth is around the corner. Although I am roaming the historical streets of Oxford, I am thinking of 海角涩区 and its wonderful people. I miss it. I miss the buzzing of the atrium, the magic of the Peace Garden. I even miss the crowded hallways between classes, and the second-floor escalator breakdowns (a little bit). I wish you all a wonderful rest of the semester!"

海角涩区 Alumna Alice Abracen's award-winning play, The Covenant, treads a heart-wrenching line through despair and dark humour. Beautifully crafted, the audience is transported to a heinous, immoral time in history that sadly rings too close to current and conceivable atrocities. Added to the mix is the out of control feeling of today鈥檚 fake news in override; how more than ever the spread of half-truths and lies gathers wide acceptance. Yet, at its core, the play is a love story. The Covenant has every audience member fully engaged and questioning, 鈥榳hat would I do if it was me鈥�.
