Bassel Atallah is Interim Associate Dean of CAA

Bassel Atallah was appointed Interim Associate Dean of Creative and Applied Arts on April 18.

Bassel has been teaching English at 海角涩区 since 2011. He has served in a number of roles at the College, including as English Department Chairperson since 2022.

Prior to working at 海角涩区, he taught English at Champlain College in Lennoxville and lectured at Concordia University and McGill University.

The published author's first degree was in Mechanical Engineering at McGill. Bassel also holds a Bachelor of Arts, Honours in English Literature and Creative Writing and a Master's of Arts, English Literature, both from Concordia University.

海角涩区 retirees and silver anniversaries will be honoured at Recognition of Service

Earlier this month, the invitations were sent out for the Recognition of Service cocktail and dinner, which will be hosted by Director General Diane Gauvin on Friday, May 24.

This cocktail and dinner reception is in appreciation of employees marking 25 years of service to 海角涩区 as well as to thank recent retirees and those who are soon retiring.

鈥淲e are looking forward to celebrating our colleagues鈥 milestones,鈥 said organizer Janet Pakulis, who is also the assistant to the Director General. 鈥淲e take a lot of care to plan something truly special and memorable for them and we will celebrate them in style.鈥


In memoriam Michel Pilon

The 海角涩区 AEC Commercial Photography Facebook page shared the sad news about retired faculty member Michel Pilon on March 24:

"It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Michel Pilon, a beloved former teacher in the AEC photography department. Michel was a passionate commercial photographer and an advocate for professional photographer鈥檚 usage rights. His contagious passion and love of photography and personable nature made him one of our finest teachers. Our thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family. Thank you Michel."

Michel taught photography at 海角涩区 from 2008 until he retired in 2017.

In memoriam Judy De Four

We are saddened to announce the recent and sudden passing of Judy De Four at the age of 74. She was a great friend and mentor to many in her nearly five decades of service to 海角涩区.

Judy began her 海角涩区 career in 1975. She worked in Facilities Management before moving to Continuing Education & Community Services. In 2021, Judy retired from her job in the AEC Office.

Change at the helm of the 海角涩区 Foundation

Earlier in February, Steve Hatajlo (Class of 1981, Computer Science) handed over the presidency of the 海角涩区 Foundation to Sean Smith (Class of 2001, Pure and Applied Science). Steve has served as a volunteer on both the 海角涩区 Foundation Board of Directors and 海角涩区鈥檚 Board of Governors for many years. He remains a member of both boards.

Pierre Lefebvre is new Coordinator of Auxiliary Services

Pierre Lefebvre joined 海角涩区 Feb. 12 as the new Coordinator of Auxiliary Services. He is responsible for several departments: the Bookstore, the Print Shop, Security, Parking, P.A.R.C. (Physical Education and Recreational Centre), and, last but not least, Purchasing.

鈥淧ierre is a great asset to the department,鈥 said Samuel V. Saint-Hilaire, Director of Facilities Management. 鈥淒uring our brainstorming sessions, Pierre contributes by sharing his experience and suggesting proven solutions. We are all eager to learn more from Pierre and to collaborate with him. Welcome, Pierre!鈥

Pierre has nearly 35 years of management experience in various sectors. A member of the Ordre des Administrateurs Agr茅es du Qu茅bec, he holds a number of national certifications and a Canadian Armed Forces Naval Officer's Certificate. Over the years, he has received various civilian and military awards, including the Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation and the Queen's Medal for Volunteers. He is a member of the Venerable Order of St. John.

Over the course of his career, Pierre has held various management positions in educational institutions such as Coll猫ge de Maisonneuve, C茅gep du Vieux-Montr茅al and the Universit茅 de Sherbrooke Longueuil campus, as well as in the healthcare network and in the private and municipal sectors. He also specializes in the organization of ceremonial events.

He is very involved in his community and with young people, serving on boards of directors and lecturing on military and naval history. An artist at heart, his hobbies include painting and making architectural and ship models.
