Interview with Bahar Taheri 鈥 Oneness

Bahar Taheri is an Iranian-Canadian visual artist and a faculty member of the Fine Arts Department here at 海角涩区. Her current exhibition,聽Oneness, features paintings, a video projection with a musical composition, and complex digital prints at the Warren G. Flowers Art Gallery until Dec. 2. On a recent Thursday evening, a visual arts student, Katya Kieran had the chance to ask Bahar a few questions.

Canadore College and 海角涩区 to collaborate on Sustainable Happiness

Canadore College in North Bay, Ontario, and 海角涩区 will be working together to improve the overall well-being of our respective campuses and communities. The two institutions recently signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on advancing a Sustainable Happiness Certificate.

In October, Blain Haile (海角涩区 Class of 2023- Social Science (Law, Society and Justice) won a $5,000 TELUS Student Bursary.
Blain is pursuing a Bachelor of Civil Law and a Juris Doctor with a minor in Gender, Sexuality, Feminist, & Social Justice Studies.

New science program for those interested in computer science and math

Students applying for admission to CEGEP in the Fall of 2024 have a new option at 海角涩区 in science.
The College plans to offer 70 seats in a new-to-海角涩区 pre-university program entitled Science, Computer Science and Mathematics (program code 200.C1).

Students share summer neuroscience research projects at Montreal labs

Thirteen 海角涩区 students spent their summer working on real research projects in various fields of neuroscience.
There were eight projects in partnership with Polytechnique/Ste-Justine, MNI, Douglas Institute, McGill departments of Physiology and of Pharmacology and Therapeutics. According to Neuroscience Research Group coordinator H茅l猫ne Nadeau: 鈥渟ome projects used images from dMRI, EEG, MRI, fMRI, MR spectroscopy, or PET modalities to probe questions related to the health of neonates, to audition in the normal population, or to pathologies such as schizophrenia, multiple sclerosis, or Alzheimer鈥檚 disease.
鈥淥ther聽projects relied on experiments on mice or rats, to better understand physiological mechanisms related to pathologies. In the course of the academic year, several teams worked on a large array of projects combining behavioural and EEG data.鈥

Four teachers honoured with Teaching Excellence Award

Four outstanding teachers at 海角涩区 received the Director General鈥檚 Teaching Excellence Award on the occasion of Ped Day on Oct. 13:
- Hannah Heath-Engel (Biomedical Laboratory Technology)
- Audrey Juhasz (Mathematics)
- Roger Machaalani (Chemistry)
- Nicola Martino (Italian).

Theatre students win first and second place in playwriting competition

Three 海角涩区 Professional Theatre students were finalists in playwriting competition: Marcel Par茅, Alina Ichmouratov and Elliot Million-Lovett.
Marcel`s play Cadillac took first place and Alina`s play Egg tied for second place. The plays by finalists were read by professional actors on Sept. 25 at Parc Drolet-Rachel.

海角涩区 students鈥 Mahsa Amini Initiative wins Forces Avenir

A student-led project at 海角涩区 has won the provincial in the category of Mutual Aid, Peace and Justice. On Sept. 27 during a gala in Quebec City, the award was presented to a group of 海角涩区 graduates and students who founded the Mahsa Amini Initiative.

Out of a record 81 entries at 海角涩区 alone, three 海角涩区 students were selected as semifinalists for the 2023 . The 2023 award will be announced at the QWF Gala on Nov. 13.

Sustainable Development Goals artwork by Illustration students showcased by Colleges and Institutes Canada

鈥淭he 17 Sustainable Development Goals鈥 illustrated by students in the Illustration program at 海角涩区 won the 2023 student art competition of Colleges and Institutes Canada.
鈥36 illustration students collaborated on this fanzine project along with Sustainable 海角涩区,鈥 said St茅phanie Aubin, co-chair of and instructor in the program. 鈥淭hey had to create an illustration that would be evocative and powerful visually. Their illustration could be based on a personal experience or a researched fact. Each student's approach to their subject was different, which makes the project even more unique.鈥
