The Speculator, which opened Jan. 29, is being performed tonight, Friday and this weekend and next week as well before closing on Feb. 8
The play is a historical drama set in early 18th聽century France, when the country is experiencing some of its lowest economic moments. John Law, Scottish economist, gambler and conman, arrives in Paris with a plan to stimulate the French economy. He hires playwright Marivaux to write a play to distract and entertain investors. The French government, nobility, and commoners alike are swept up in the frenzy of Law鈥檚 scheme, the Mississippi Company, only to have it come crashing down. A play about greed and deception. Directed by Stefanie Buxton and performed by the third-year graduating students of the Professional Theatre program.

Winter Open House is Feb. 5

Help us spread the word: 海角涩区's Winter Open House is this coming Wednesday, Feb. 5 from 4 PM to 8 PM.
This is a chance for prospective students and their parents to come ask their questions before the application deadline of March 1. Faculty members, academic advisors and Student Services team members will all be here. It can also be an opportunity for students to see the school on a typical school day and get a feel for the place.

Social Science Week is Feb. 3-7

The Social Science program is once again offering a week of talks on a variety of topics that will be of interest to the entire college community. Social Science Week will take place Feb. 3 to 7. The program is found here.
Social Science Week is an opportunity for students to see what contemporary Social Scientists are up to and to learn more about the many pathways Social Science study can lead to. It is also a moment to reflect deeply on the most meaningful questions we face at this point in history, questions about climate catastrophe, our rapidly changing media landscapes, art-making and race-relations, and how to think about conflict, both locally and abroad. These talks invite students and faculty to step out of the constraints of the traditional classroom, and into conversations about the world that is and the world that is to come.

Beeswax Food Wrap Workshop Nov. 25

鈥淓.T, here?, now?鈥� is a special session that will take place during Social Science Week (Feb. 3-6, 2025). The session focuses on recent discussions and disclosures concerning the possibility/plausibility/probability of humankind not being alone in the 鈥渉ere鈥� and 鈥�now鈥� on Earth and will be moderated by Dr. Richard Soare. Dr. Soare is a member of the Geography Department and has published over 125 articles, book chapters, extended abstracts and encyclopaedia references in his 25 years of work in planetary science, principally on Mars.
The session will comprise four brief (8-10 minutes) oral contributions from four people (two 海角涩区 faculty members and two 海角涩区 students) on either side of the question, i.e. a faculty member and a student on the 鈥�pro鈥� side and the same on the 鈥�con鈥� side.
There will be an open call for participants from Friday, Nov. 8 to Wednesday Nov. 13. If you are keen to participate, please summarize your thoughts on the session subject in 50-75 words and drop a printed copy of them into a storage bin placed outside of Dr. Soare鈥檚 office (4D-22) during the solicitation period. Please ensure that your summary includes your full name, email address and whether you are a faculty member or a student. Successful candidates will be contacted no later than Nov. 22.
Canada Invertebrate Expo will be at 海角涩区 Nov. 16

Canada Invertebrate Expo: 脡dition Montr茅al 2024 will be a celebration of biodiversity, hosted by 海角涩区鈥檚 Living Campus on Saturday, Nov. 16 from 10 AM to 5 PM. There will be 35 interactive exhibitors and vendors.
The organizer is Daniel Zimmerman, a graduate of 海角涩区 who is donating a portion of ticket sales to the 海角涩区 Living Campus fund.
